Art Director Franco Battiato , Polystudio (IT)
Graphic designer and musician. With his Polystudio he has designed for publishers, museums, theatres, newspapers, and any number of cultural institutions, including the Venice Biennale, for which he served as Art Director from 1977 to 1982 (and from 1979 to 1980 with Milton Glaser). Since 1999 he has been Art Director at Edizioni Bompiani (selected for the Compasso d’Oro in 2001) where, among other achievements, he designed all of Umberto Eco’s publications. Since 2002 he has been teaching Visual Communication Design at Università Iuav in Venice. In the record business he has designed for Emi, Polygram, Sony, Universal, and Wea-Warner. Together with Franco Battiato he founded the publishing house l’Ottava, which releases both records (distributed by Emi) and books with Longanesi.As a musician he has produced upwards of ten albums for Alice, and has collaborated with other Italian artists. Under his own name he has published with Cramps, CGD, Polygram and CNI. In 2014 he published his first book “Ogni tanto passava una nave, Viaggi e soste con Franco Battiato (Every now and then a ship came by, Travels and pit-stops with Franco Battiato), which tells the story of their forty-year partnership.
