Prof. Jens Michow is the founder and senior partner of the Hamburg based media law office “Michow & Ulbricht Attorneys At Law”. In 1985 Michow founded the „Bundesverband der Veranstaltungswirtschaft e.V.“ (German Association of the Promoting Industry – short: ‘bdv’) of which he is the president and CEO for now 33 years. The organization represents the commercial interests of more than 300 concert-, tour promoters and entertainment companies that have a annual market transaction volume of approx. 4 billion Euros. As the organization’s president Michow is also member of the advisory board of the German‘Artist Social Security Fund’ and board member of the ‘Initiative Musik’, a funding agency set up by the German federal government in 2008 to promote the music industry in Germany. Michow is CEO of the “LEA – Live Entertainment Award Committee e. V.” and producer of its annual award ceremony that takes place during the “fair of music” and the “Prolight & Sound fair” at the “Festhalle”Frankfurt since 2011. Since 2010 Michow has a teaching assignment in the scholar Law at the “Hochschule für Musik und Theater” in Munich. In July 2013 the Free State of Bavaria awarded Michow a professorial chair. With his partner Dr. Johannes Ulbricht Michow is the author of a handbook for entertainment law, which was published by C. H. Beck publishing house in November 2013. The book provides 2000 sources of information with complex analysis and a systematic overview of all the legal regulations, court decisions as well as legal literature regarding event law.
